Refund & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: August 21, 2026
This policy is part of our Terms of Service and applies to DeerDawn subscriptions bought through our self-serve checkout.
1. 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
If DeerDawn is not for you, email [email protected] within 30 days of your first paid charge and ask for a refund. We will cancel the subscription and refund that charge in full. You do not need to give a reason, and we will not ask you to complete a survey or a retention call first.
The guarantee covers the first paid charge on an account, on either the monthly or the annual plan, and can be used once per account. Refunds are returned to the original payment method through Stripe; how quickly the money reappears on your statement is set by your bank, typically within five to ten business days.
There is no free trial to sign up for — the Free plan is the trial, and no card is required to use it.
2. Cancelling Your Subscription
You can cancel at any time, without contacting us, from Settings → Plan & billing in your DeerDawn dashboard. “Cancel subscription” opens the Stripe customer billing portal, where you can cancel the subscription, change your card, or download past invoices. DeerDawn never sees or stores your card details.
Cancelling stops future renewals. It does not shorten the period you have already paid for: your paid plan stays active until the end of the current billing period, and your account moves to Free after that. Outside the 30-day guarantee we do not pro-rate the unused part of a billing period, so cancelling mid-cycle is not itself a refund request. If you were charged for a renewal you meant to cancel, email [email protected] — we would rather sort it out than keep money you did not want to spend.
3. Automatic Renewal
Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period — every month for monthly plans, every year for annual plans — at the then-current price for your plan, until you cancel. Renewal charges are taken by Stripe against the card on file. Any change to the price of a plan applies only to renewals, after 30 days advance notice, as described in the Terms of Service.
4. What Happens to Your Briefs
Cancelling, downgrading, or taking a refund moves your account to the Free plan. Nothing you have written is deleted. Free covers up to 3 project briefs with a 7-day history window, and the difference shows up like this:
- Existing briefs keep working. If you have more than three project briefs when you move to Free, all of them stay on your account and stay readable. The limit applies to creating new ones: you will not be able to start another project brief until you are under three, or back on a paid plan.
- History older than 7 days stops appearing in the brief. On Free, decisions, debugging notes, and shipped items with a timestamp older than seven days are filtered out of the brief delivered to your AI tools. They are filtered, not deleted — every entry comes back in full the moment you upgrade again.
- Export is available on every plan. You can export your full context as JSON or Markdown at any time, on Free or paid, before or after cancelling.
Deleting your account is a separate, permanent action you take yourself in dashboard settings; it is described in our Privacy Policy.
5. Failed Payments
If a renewal payment fails, your account falls back to the Free plan's limits while the subscription is past due — nothing is deleted, and the section above describes exactly what changes. Update your card from Settings → Plan & billing → Update payment method and paid features resume as soon as the payment succeeds.
6. Requesting a Refund
Email [email protected] from the address on your DeerDawn account and say that you want a refund. A human reads it, and DeerDawn is small enough that the human is usually the founder. Once a refund is approved we process it in Stripe and cancel the subscription in the same step, so there is no further charge.
Outside the 30-day guarantee, charges are non-refundable except where a refund is required by law, or where we agree one is fair — a duplicate charge or a billing error, for example. Nothing in this policy limits statutory consumer rights you may have where you live, including any statutory cancellation or withdrawal period.
